Katharine was born in England, and became a permenant resident of Canada in 1995.
She studied art from an early age, growing up in an artist family. Her father was a portrait painter of American aristocracy. Her family supported and nurtured her talents as an artist. Watching her father at work as a portrait painter gave a solid foundation of skill and technique to a unique and talented young artist, as well as a curiosity and wonder for the fine arts.
This interest and passion led to the formal studies of fine art and printmaking at West Surry College of Art and Design and later at the internationally renowned Slade School of Fine Art, University College London. Katharine exhibited her paintings in London, New York, Toronto and Vancouver B.C. She found immediate success as an illustrator in London during the 80's and 90's. Throughout this time Katharine painted portraits of people and exhibited her vibrant and colourful art in U.K. galleries, including the National Portrait Gallery.
In the mid 90's Katharine immigrated to Vancouver BC, Canada. Here she continued to paint and explore her creativity. Painting people in a series of works related to sports in Canada. This series included some early explorations in digital painting and drawing, combining her interest in sport and painting. Katharine has been a keen sportswoman throughout her life, playing football and cricket from an early age to field hockey for the local community team. Katharine currently practices Aikido in Vancouver and belongs to Shohei Juka Aikido Canada. She also enjoys cross country skiing and summer hiking.
Katharines skills and experience have been utilised in the world of 3D animation in Vancouver. She has been hired for many years for her sophisticated colour direction and ability to create innovative textures for 3D models. Years of painting experience with her personal take on the canvas of modern technology has contributed to a unique and groundbreaking look in the world of computer animation.
The blend of experience in painting, commercial art and illustration in combination with computer art has enabled Katharine to develop and grow as an artist. Her work is entirely unique and innovative in style. She continues to follow her love for portraiture and the challenge of creating art that connects with the spirit of people. The fascination is in the intimate living communication between the artist, the subject and the viewer. She currently works from her studio in Vancouver BC.
